How to measure a ring size

Shopping online from a distance for a ring can be daunting and we’d like to take away as much of that hesitation as possible. How to measure a ring size and determining the correct ring size does not need to hold you back and there are a couple of ways in which we can help give you peace of mind before placing your order.

If you can, book at appointment to meet with us and we can measure your ring size in person for you. This will always be the best way! If this is not possible we can send you a complimentary ring sizer which is a great little device and will give you your general size. Simply add the free ring sizer to your shopping bag by requesting it here.

(As always please don’t throw this away once you’ve finished with it either pass it on or you can send it back to us for re-use)

Since all rings are made differently and the width of the ring can mean you may need a slightly different size.  Even if you have had your ring size measured elsewhere or you know it in a different country conversion there may be some slight variations from maker to maker.  To eliminate this we also offer our perfect fit sample ringswhich are sterling silver plain bands in varying widths to use once you have your general size.

These sample rings are £20 each and can be returned to us if you wish within 30 days for a full refund less shipping. This is a great way to wear a sample ring over a few days to see how the fit feels and sits on your finger in your everyday life.  Your fingers can change throughout the day - when cold your finger will be a smaller size than if your hands are hot or after exercise, so trying the size out for few days really helps to make you comfortable about getting the correct size. You can select your perfect fit ring here.

If the ring is for a surprise gift or engagement then there are other slightly more cunning ways to get the best size.  This will inevitably be a guestimate but with a few tricks we can work out a good size to start with. If you are able to get hold of another ring that the person you’re giving the ring to wears then you can use our printable ring size guide here.  Make a note of which finger and hand they wear that ring on and we can give you an approximation of the best size for them. If you are also able to provide a photograph of the person and an image of their hand that also helps hugely in getting the best general size.

Most rings can be resized and we offer complimentary resizing if requested within 30 days of receipt. The few exceptions are eternity style rings where there are stones set around the entire ring, and similar style rings.  We can advise the best option if you are choosing a ring of this style.

If you have any questions about the sizing process or the tools we use please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help. You can view our ring selection here.
