The brief for this ring was simple. The client knew, from talking with friends of his girlfriends what she liked and so it was quite specific. A halo ring with a light blue sapphire in the centre.
Sapphires come in a wide array of colours from blues through to greens and pinks and so a blue sapphire is never just a blue sapphire! They had read about Montana sapphires so they had knowledge of what they were looking for.
I sourced a selection of sapphires to show the client including a beautiful Montana sapphire and two pale blue Sri Lankan sapphires, and a blue sapphire from Malawi. In the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown when we were just starting to use video and phone consultations rather than face to face we were able to share photos and emails to make sure the stone was just right.
Another element that made the ring a really personal piece was the use of Australian diamonds for the halo. The couple had spent some time in Australia so having the option to use Australian diamonds for them was lovely.
The final ring was hand crafted in Fairtrade 18ct white gold and set with a gorgeous blue Montana sapphire surrounded by a halo of Australian diamonds.
I’m pleased to say the couple are now happily engaged and the ring was a huge success.
I’m so grateful to have wonderful clients who trust me to design and make their rings. It’s such a privilege to be part of something so special.
